I have been getting my hair relaxed, cut, washed and styled by Nyesha for 3 years. She is wonderful. She does a wonderful job of getting my hair straight without burning my scalp. She is also great in term of hair cut advice and visualizing what will look good on me. I have no complaints. She is professional, friendly and I always leave with great hair. Plus, I have some thick African hair that she keeps straight and flowy. I am hiring her to do my wedding and wedding party hair because i know she will have everyone looking beautiful!

I want to report a wonderful experience at the Gary Manuel (Phase 3) Salon. By pure luck-of-the-draw I found myself in the superb hands of stylist Pepper Ogle. Pepper (appropriately named) is not merely technically skilled, but aesthetically sophisticated. Best of all, she listens, actually HEARS, comprehends your wishes, and expertly responds.
I'd made a last minute appointment because a very significant occasion had arisen: I was to be reunited with an old beau whom I hadn't seen in ages. Anxious to make a favorable impression I raced to the salon for professional intervention. I had no plan to go for color because I was regrettably short on funds.
Pepper, like a young mother hen, shook her head. ”I can't let you go to this important event with a gray stripe along your part. Just can't.”
And she didn't. She went ahead and foiled my hair -- without charge! By any standard this was way beyond the call of professional duty. Plus she's an absolute pleasure to hang with, a joy on all fronts -- and she gave me the very finest haircut I've ever had.

Sometimes I am really adamant about trying a new cut that is way out of character for me. The cut was beautifully executed and I would live with it for about a week. Unfortunately, I would then decide that I did not like the look on me … she warned me. No worries thou, all I ever have to do is tell Michelle that I am not thrilled with it. After asking a few questions about what I did not like, she has me stop by to fix it …. No charge even thou it wasn’t her fault. She did exactly what I asked for.
I would be really upset to have to change to another stylist …. In fact I suspect at least for the first appointment I would not like anything about them ... but then if they had Michelle's talent and wamth, I would come around .... good news is I don't need to try a new stylist. ‎

Let me start off by saying, as a first time client at Gary Manuel i was treated with the up most respect. The salon gives off a very calm and soothing vibe.
I went to this salon for the Hair Relaxer Treatment. Mind you, my hair is extremely curly.
This relaxer is supposed to take out 80% of the curl, and it exceed 80% when i got it done.
I rarely straighten my hair, and my curls are now waves.
Michelle Bostick did a very good job, the treatment worked and i highly recommened it.

My first cut experience was really great - Dan fixed the mess on my head and was 100% true to his word that it would grow out proper. I've been to every top salon in Seattle -- paying over $100 for a haircut since 1988 -- and never, not once, has anyone come close to what Gary Manuel Salon delivers. Color so natural it looks like it grew out of my head. A cut so balanced I can shake my head and go. A look so good I don't care what it costs -- and I'm a Scot. Time in the chair here is an indulgence. They don't just pretend to be attentive, they really do pay attention to you. AND, most important thing, they are really good people. Genuinely good. Part of that is how careful they to protect you from harmful chemicals. Go there. You deserve it. Best tip: try a $20 shampoo/blow out at Phase 3. Look good for a bargain.

This was my first time to the Phase 3 Salon, a stepping off point for seasoned third-year Gary Manuel students. I had paid too much at other trendy salons and had very average haircuts. Here, at Phase 3 I got wonderful customer service and the best haircut I've had in years from Christopher. He took a departure from what I had expected him to do, and gave me the greatest short haircut so that I could grow out the ravages of the last two haircuts. What a great cut and style!!!! I started at Gary Manuel in their Phase 3 salon. This is the step between their beauty school and the main salon. At the time, I couldn't afford to go to the main salon. So, I started with Audrey at Phase 3 and when she graduated I followed her to the main salon. And she is great! I have never had a steady stylist, because I have never been very excited about my hair, but she makes me excited about my hair. I have curly hair and I just get bored with it. I love how she cuts it every time and she always does something a little different each time (difficult to do with curly hair). She is also super nice and fun. I truly enjoy the experience! The atmosphere is great and everyone seems to be very nice, but Audrey keeps me going back. The price is a bit of a stretch for me ($50), but so far it has been worth it for me. On a side note, consider ”Phase 3” if you can't afford the main salon. That worked really well for me and cuts are under $35! They are also really friendly and have a great atmosphere.

On my first visit I was welcomed and greeted by name, the staff came up and welcomed me personally, the staff actually listened to my needs. I left feeling valued and appreciated. I assumed this is the protocol for ”new clients”... this would not last. The caring service has continued. 20+ months later I have continued to get to know Gary and many of the staff personally . The service continues to remain very consistent and I know this is a culture at Gary Manuel.
I have had long conversations with Gary and assistants about there service goals (mine not being any more unique than most people), they do strive for perfection and they care about my feedback.

Staff greeted me right away and took care of anything I needed with friendly smiles. The atmosphere was completely comfortable with great music and plenty of space. For the past 5 years I have had Thermal Relaxers done at Gary Manual with refreshes every 8 months. I have to say getting a thermal relaxer on my hair has changed my life - my hair has never never looked better, shinier, and more polished. I constantly get comments from strangers about how nice my hair looks. I have very fine hair and prior to thermal relaxing it was very curly and difficult to manage; I always wore it in a pony tail because my hair never looked polished. Now I look like I get my hair done in a salon every day. Today, my hair takes 5-10 min max to do (and actually I really don't have to do anything if I don't want to), whereas previously it would take 45 min and still not look great. I am very sorry to hear that another client did not seem to have the same result as me. I will continue to go to Gary Manual to get my thermal relaxer's done regularly - there is no way I would trust anyone else with my hair - and will highly recommend the salon to anyone and everyone. I've been going to GM for about 9 years now (my stylist is Sunny), since I moved to Seattle from the East coast, and I have always been 100% completely satisfied on every level (obviously, I keep going back). I have worked in customer service my entire (working) life and I can tell you they are top-notch. I come in on my days off in jeans, a tshirt, flip-flops, barely any make-up and often wet hair or looking like a tornado went through it, and I have only and always been received in a friendly and sincere manner, always treated wonderfully. I have *never* heard any inappropriate conversations or anything resembling such. As for the ”magazine editor” below, maybe when you learn proper English grammar, someone might buy into your story, but for now, please just go back to your little doll house.:)
My experience has been fabulous cuts and color, great recommendations for products (and I have never felt pressured to buy anything--ever!). They are very reasonably priced IMO, however for the budget conscious, you can always go to their training salon(Phase 3) on the lower level, where your cut/color is done by a student under the watchful eye of instructors. What I really like about this salon is their pride in quality. All stylists, no matter how much experience they've had in the past, must go through THEIR training before being on the floor on their own (which I believe can take 1-2 years). If you want a fabulous cut and/or color with professional, first-rate customer service, then GM is the salon for you.

Stephen is a phenominal stylist. I moved to Seattle about 10 years ago and wanted to find a great stylist. He was recommended by a lady I worked with who had an awesome cut. So I made an appointment and have never looked back.
He consistently does an exceptional cut. When ever I've fancied a change over the years I've gone in without pictures and said I'd like to do something different and I've ALWAYS come out happy. I LOVE HIS WORK!! And as the grey has sprouted he's gently prodded me into trying some color to hid it. With some goldie red tones on my brown hair it looks great.

A little convenience thing I like too is you can ”dump” your car in the lot over the road even when it's full and give the attendent your keys and come back an hour later. I'm driving from the Eastside and it makes it so much easier to know at least I can drop the car off and run in.

I have been going to Stephen at Gary Manuel for many, many years and he always amazes me with his profressionalism, knowlege of MY hair and style, his sense of creativity which is understated when I only want the same as always and supportively ”new” when I need a lift, and his sweet and helpful attitude. In less sane moments, I have gone to other salons and felt so much like a ”head”, with no real recognition of the individuality of both my hair and my personality that I have come running back to Gary Manuel and Stephen as soon as I possibly could I rarely indulge myself in personal treats, but for me, being treated like a cherished friend by Stephen and the whole salon is something I look forward to for the whole 6 weeks between visits! It is just a cut and color but the way I am always treated and the lift I get from the care that is lavished on me, I feel as if I have had a full spa treatment every time. Another compliment I need to pay to the salon but especially to Stephen is the way the ”shampoo and support” styling interns are treated. So much of their training is obviously devoted to shaping their attiutude of service, courtesy and professionalism that the fact that they all are already quite skilled in their craft comes as a bonus within a consistently lovely experience. I cannot imagine a better sylist or salon experience and if Stephen were suddenly no longer available to me I would feel as if a big hole had opened up in my life! I have no higher recommendation than Stephen Pace to anyone who wants the very best.

Overall, the salon was very hospitable and clean. Sarah was on time, very attentive, knowledgable, and fast. She also provided me with great product recommendations, and was understanding and not too pushy if I chose not to purchase them. I am very picky about my hair, and I thought Sarah did a great job. After she highlighted it the first time, it was still a little darker than I had in mind. She was very understanding and patient, and she really wanted for me to be happy with it, so she re-did it for free and wasn't finished until it was exactly what I was asking for and I was thrilled with it. Though expensive, it was worth it because I walked away happy. Overall, it was a positive experience and I love the cut and my highlights.

I decided to try GM even though it was so much for a cut, but I left very happy. This has not happened in years. I have not had long hair in a long time because someone would cut my hair and I would have to keep cutting it to shape it back to normal. My hair is very think and frizzy which makes the short funky cut I like hard to do, I have a hard time finding a stylist that can blowdry my hair smooth let alone give me a nice cut. Lindsay (I hope I'm spelling that right) did an amazing job. She thinned it out in all the right places so I don't get that poofy look, it's so much easier to style now too. She was extremely easy to talk to, she actually listened to my hair problems! The salon staff is very friendly and the place itself is nice. i don't consider it expensive at all, about $50 for the cut. I paid about $30 on the other side og the sound for a horrible job so the extra $20 is worth it.

I've had a medical condition that caused the loss of almost all of my hair. After two and a half years trying to grow it out, and trying to find a new stylist, I think I've finally found one! My stylist of 17 years quit the biz to raise a family. After going to almost all of the high end salons in town, and coming out with a cut that was either not what I wanted or that simply didn't work with the different lengths and textures of my hair. Tsofie was able to fix all of the issues I had with my hair and it looks very nice. I'm so happy with it, and can't tell you how great it is to finally have my hair fixed after two and a half years having a mess on my head, and to finally have found a great stylist for my hair.

She gets to know your personal style and comfort levels and tailors your look - then walks you through how to do it on your own once you get home (an approach few salons remember).
I get compliments on my hair from people I've never even met. The last 5 times I've seen Rebecca, I've been approached down the street by someone who says I look beautiful! (I'm starting to think they hire people to say these things to their clients!)
The prices are a bit more expensive than I'm used to paying, but well worth being in an up-scale salon with talented staff who have an edge on style.

I never used to get my hair cut too much. It was always long and dark. I would get it trimmed every once in a great while. I would also get highlights that seems to never show up in my dark hair even if I get it done in a salon.
However, at Gary Manuel, the people are great. They give the most honest opinion and the best styling suggestions (everything from makeup to hair cut to color to an up-do for any event).

I've always enjoyed wearing my hair long, but it seemed to be growing thinner and thinner with time. Yikes.. Nothing worse than long, stringy hair!! Determined to either find a fab new short style, or a genie with wishes to spare who could restore my former long thick locks, I luckily found Sunny at Gary Manuel. Extensions girls, aren't just for adding length.. They look even BETTER when used to add thickness and volume. Sunny uses hair-locs, which are individual extensions that DON'T damage your hair a bit! No heat, no glue, they take less than 2 hours generally to ”put in” and they look SO natural. The bulk of the cost lies in the hair itself, and GM is charging FAR less for the service than salons in LA etc, who're taking advantage of extensions new popularity. Before you resort to cutting thin hair short, call Sunny!

I read the bios of the stylists and scheduled an appointment with Tracy Spurrell. Tracy spent a significant amount of time talking with me prior to cutting and coloring my hair, assuring I was comfortable with the changes she had suggested. I left with an amazing cut, and the color has lasted longer than I expected (my gray usually peeks through in a matter of days and it is now a few weeks later and not a gray in sight!) Kathryn is a true master and does an incredible job of combining both the art and science of her craft. As a 57-year-old, I say GM Salon is universal and eternal - great ideas, wants to please, very skilled, friendly, and just plain good people. Which is probably why many celebrities go there. And why I would travel from the Eastside, when possible. And why they have been in business for a couple of decades or more. Good Job.

I've been to several stylists here and found them to be highly skilled. This is the most serious salon I've every seen when it comes to doing hair. They are very fashionable, yet seem to focus entirely on who they are working on. Some reviews on here seem vindictive, you are missing out if you don't take a look.

I have been a client of Stephens for many years, and cannot say enough good things about him. He has been a big part of my life...therapist, shoulder to cry on, friend. I trust his suggestions, as he has never been wrong. He is among the BEST in colors. Due to my line of work, I have had to transfer out of the Seattle area many times. And each time returning, he has corrected mistakes other hairdressers have made in coloring. He is a magician~and now, I will travel 200 miles, just to have him do his work! Gary Manuel Salon is a pretty trendy joint, with associates who are festively tattooed, hennaed, leather-garbed and the like. Customers are also a fashionable group BUT based on my recent experience, you don't have to be wearing black and qualify for Seattle's Cool List (if there is such a thing) to like this place. Their appointment setting and front desk staff was absolutely cheery. My stylist, Jeremy, was personable and scissors-skilled. He took the time to find out what I wanted and to evaluate my hair's whims and follies. THe painful parking situation aside, I'd recommend Gary Manuel, and I'm going back.

This is the best salon I have EVER been to. After MANY bad cuts and colors, especially from Gene Juarez and Jeremy Todd, I finally decided to try Gary Manuel. That was the best decision I ever made. I go to Vergie and she has done wonders with my color (which I get complemented on at least once every other day). The front desk is also extremely attentive and friendly to all customers. I recommend anyone who is not happy with their current salon to try Gary Manuel.

I have been a customer of Stephen Pace at the Gary and Manuel salon for years, and have never been disappointed! Great cuts every time .. and the most fabulous color! He worked with me to get the most natural and flattering color of red - strangers stop me to comment on what a pretty color it is. As a matter of fact, a woman in my office just dyed her hair red, and was so disappointed that it didn't look like mine! If you have ever had a bad color - run to Stephen, you will never look back!

I am very particular but Tina never leaves me disappointed! With every other stylist in my life I had to wash it and style it myself before I knew if I liked my new ”do”, but not with Tina! 3 Years ago I found The Gary Manuel Salon while browsing through one of my hair magazines. It was rated as one of the top 10 salons in the U.S. I played tug a war with myself as to whether or not a mother of 3 should spend that kind of money on a hair cut. Plus travel 2 1/2 hours to get there. And I decided that I had already spent that much money on some really bad cuts. So I saved a few dollars out of my nightly tips from work and I made the call, scheduled an appointment with Gary himself and I have been satisfied 110% with my every visit!!! Yesterday being my most recent.GM is the best!! I feel great and I feel that I look great!

They are well deserving of their reputation as the most famous salon in the Northwest and I, for one, feel that Seattle is truly blessed. Even the mention of Gary Manuel reminds me that I live in a world class city with world class people. They are devoted to protecting the environment, are leaders at getting involved in social causes, and they highlight hip local artists in their salon. How cool is that? What I really love is the feeling I get that the people at Gary Manuel sincerely care about making their friends (clients) feel fantastic. I love those guys, and I highly recommend Gary Manuel.

The Gary Manuel Salon is the hippist thing to hit Seattle. My stylist knew what was right for my hair. My stylist also suggested hip places for me while visiting Seattle. Salon over all is large and roomy, except for waiting area. Luckly I only waited for a few minutes. Staff is very friendly and accomidating, fed my parking meter. Receptionists are so nice a friendly. They made me feel like a queen when I left the salon. A must salon for the savvy
